Picture

Hello. It’s me. (DC)

Continuing on our impromptu “hooking up with 90s Aussie bands who actually had a sense of humour” tour, I’m proud to announce the Disco Machine will be special guests of the Grates, Dec 7, at the Corner Hotel and then at Curtin Xmas, Lygon St Carlton with Regurgitator, Dec 22.

If you fancy a bit of “Music is Crap” and want to see Tony Martin and I stake our claim as the new Jay Z and Beyonce, you can purchase your tickets via the usual outlets.

CUSTARD
DAMIAN COWELLS DISCO MACHINE
FRI SEPT 7TH 2018 - PRINCE BANDROOM

Custard with special guests DAMIAN COWELL’S DISCO MACHINE featuring Tony Martin and THE NEW DREGS

Friday 07 September 2018 (opening 8:00 PM)

Prince Bandroom ( venue info )
29 Fitzroy Street, St Kilda VIC
www.princebandroom.com.au

This event is 18+

Custard formed in Brisbane in 1990 and spent a decade recording albums and touring the world.

Classics such as “Apartment”, “Music is Crap”, “Schtum” and “Girls Like That (Don’t go for guys like us)” literally fell from their fingertips.

They split up in 1999, no one seems to remember the reason why. After waiting the obligatory ten years or so, they returned to the studio in 2015 to bash out the album “Come Back All Is Forgiven”. People liked it just enough for Custard to do another album, 2017’s “The Common Touch”. Now, here we are, it’s 2018 and Custard are playing some shows. They probably won’t play any other shows for a while. Make of that what you will.  https://www.facebook.com/CUSTAR0

Hello.

Last year, a study by researchers at Cornell University found playing happy, upbeat music in a work environment increased co-operation between team members and improved group decision-making.

In another study, it was found that supermarkets playing “The Little Drummer Boy”, as sung by a former Idol contestant, caused depression, Tourettes-like outbursts and a tendency to yell at passing traffic. Admittedly, the second study had a sample group of one: me. Christmas is upon us! And that means: Disco Christmas! Our (now) annual deconstruction of this consumerist bacchanalia, replete with inappropriate appropriations of snow-flecked Christmas classics. Bing Crosby! Bill Cosby! Rudolph! MC Hammer! They’re all in there somewhere. And we’ve put together two fantastic line-ups to tempt you away from present-buying.

In Sydney, we’ll be again joined by the unbelievably uplifting Bad Bitch Choir and our favourite Christmas grouch, Pinky Beecroft. They made our February show such a rockin’ hamper, we had to have them again. In Melbourne, in a nod to the holiday barbeque season, our guests are the super silly, super catchy Burnt Sausages. They dress up as sausages, folks. You don’t want to miss it. If that isn’t enough, we’ve got comedy superstar Josh Earl! And if THAT isn’t enough, the Disco Machine will be joined onstage by Liz Stringer!
Of course, not forgetting the mere fact that Tony Martin, creator of Australia’s No.1 podcast “Childproof”, author of just-released smash hit novel “Deadly Kerfuffle”, regular guest on TV and radio and all-round comedic royalty – will be modelling a new outfit.
Can you resist? Don’t you want to hear about what happened to Jessie’s Girl? Don’t you dream of a fuckwit-free Christmas?
I know you’re used to me bullshitting all the time. But I do not exaggerate when I say these will be the parties of the year. I hope to see you too.

Yours,

Damian

"Shaking my sorry ass was so much fun I went back to the broom cupboard and started work on new songs to do your vacuuming to – only this time, I widened my scope from the joys of 70s disco to 80s, 90s and 2000s disco – bigger choruses, bigger beats, bigger and cheesier hooks. It would be a clarion call for everyone to ‘Get Yer Dag On!’ And I started imagining a fresh list of guest superstar cameos. The first of these was Judith Lucy, who joined us on ‘Peachy’. I even made a crappy home video of it. Much more to reveal in 2016/2017 as we work toward getting it out there, thanks to our loyal, much loved supporters."
